I blew up a capacitor in a printer once via software! —
Great example of the power of undefined behavior! :-)
After I registered I spend a few minutes on the first plan — just to get a feel for the trip. I had bought a Garmin zumo 550 just before Xmas, which came with MapSource — a PC-based trip planning software, which can be used for the Garmin-branded GPS receivers. The following locations are en route:
| Location | Accummulated km | Accummulated Time |
|---|---|---|
| Brisbane | 0 km | 00:00:00 |
| Toowoomba | 121 km | 01:29:25 |
| Goondiwindi | 344 km | 03:52:08 |
| Boggabilla | 353 km | 04:00:58 |
| Moree | 468 km | 05:07:47 |
| Narrabri | 568 km | 06:09:28 |
| Boggabri | 626 km | 06:50:12 |
| Gunnedah | 664 km | 07:16:51 |
| Nambucca Heads | 1042 km | 11:31:40 |
Hmm, this was straight forward and took less than 5 minutes, but… a fellow FarRider indicated that the Waterfall Way has a couple of road construction sites which can cause significant delays. The alternative route us via the Oxley Highway adding only 66 km to the trip. Since I will have enough time up my sleeve I will decide on the day, which route to take.
Getting closer to it all; it is now the Tuesday evening preceeding my leisurely ride starting on Friday 11:31 AEST. The only thing missing is the road book, or rather trip log. I have confirmed the intial route down to Nambucca Heads via the Waterfall Way with an alternative route via the Oxley Highway — as I see fit on the day. This trip should run up 1,100 km.
As mentioned before, I will pick up some of the "I've Been Everywhere Man" towns. For the trip back home, which could be either 450 km straight to base via the M1, or the rather pleasant and preferred Great Dividing Range tour, 1,050 km long. The latter route goes like this: Nambucca Heads, Dorrigo, Armidale, Grafton via Dalmorton to Glen Innes and back via the Gwydir Hwy to Grafton, Tenterfiled, Woodenbong, Brisbane. It also incorporates a number of Bear Rides: 36, 116, 118, 119, and 120. Bear Ride 30 will be done on the way to Nambucca Heads.
In the map above, the route to Nambucca Heads is represented in red, green, red, green. Marked in yellow is the return trip.
